The photographs of Francesco Mellina
1977-1982
Introduction by Paul Du Noyer
REVEALED contains part of Francesco’s collection of photographs taken in the clubs and music venues around England’s Northwest between 1977 and 1982. As manager of emerging new wave band Dead or Alive, Francesco was a regular on Liverpool’s music scene, and was always in the right place at the right time. During the period that the photographs were taken they were in demand for local fan magazines or for band publicity as well as by the national music press such as NME or The Face to illustrate articles about new music from Liverpool and the Northwest. They were shot using 36mm black and white film and were stored away until Francesco was asked to supply them for use in a major exhibition, entitled Sound and Vision: Music and Fashion, at Liverpool’s Conservation Centre in 2009. The show was a huge success, attracting a record number of visitors.
The book is portrait format, measuring 275mm x 215mm. Printed using the duotone process, it has 176 pages, containing more than 140 black and white photographs (all of which are available as prints signed by the photographer). Using 150gsm silk paper it has a real feel of quality and retails at £20 which includes P&P within the UK.
